What Do and Don’t you Want

As we are fully into the summer holidays for many, I want to invite you to imagine yourself on the 31st of December looking back on the last 6 months …

Where will you be, and will you be looking back at all the success you’ve had? Will you be remembering the experiences you’ve checked off your desires list? Will you have done all the things you craved? Perhaps you will look back at it as the summer of travel or making family memories. Or maybe you used it to get your finances in order so you could book a winter escape. You might have even started to look for a new job, one that you’re actually excited about. One that’s aligned to your passion and strengths.

Or… will you be exactly where you are now?

Sitting in the throes of winter and wishing you had taken that leap to put yourself first. Wishing you were intentional and not just being reactive to life. Maybe you’ve read a self-help book or two on how to design your life or how to get the job you want. If so, great! How’s it going?

The summer holidays and changing seasons are a perfect place to reflect on where you are now, and what you want. So, to help you get to where you want to be and to give you that kick-start, I want to ask to you think about this:

Are you coasting in life and aimlessly jumping from job to job, or relationship to relationship? It’s easy to get stuck in a pattern of repeating the same things and ultimately, getting the same negative outcome. Usually, it is because we haven’t taken stock of what we really want; in an ideal career, relationship or how you want your life to look like.

So ask yourself this first. Do you really know what you want? If you don’t, then a great way to start is with what you DON’T want. This is often easier and can help you reframe to what you do want! I have done this many times myself.

Here’s the thing, if you want to attract happiness, that body, live in your dream home, carve out a life you love, a job, or a partner, then you need to place attention on the things you DO want and attract that energy and move away from the negative vibrations that come along with focusing your attention on the things you don’t want.

Inspired by the author Louise Hay, below are some affirmations of what you 'DON'T want' vs 'what you DO want' - once you reframe them to a positive.

I don’t want to be fat

I don’t want to be broke

I don’t want to be old

I don’t want to live here

I don’t want to be like my mother/father

I don’t want to be lonely

I don’t want to be unhappy

I don’t want to be sick.

Reframed into positive DO’s…

I am slender

I am prosperous

I am eternally young

I now move to a better place

I have a wonderful new relationship

I am my own person

I am filled with love and affection

I am joyous, happy and free

I am totally healthy

Try this exercise yourself, make a list and reframe them. Make sure you think about how you want to feel from the inside, about a partner or regarding your career.

Take note of all the things you say you don’t want (negative) and reframe them to a positive sentence - your wants. If you are still struggling, let me help you get clarity about what you DO and DON'T want.
